Another fatality occurred on Metro Blue Line today. At approximately 2:45pm a 20 year old black male either jumped, or fell in front of a northbound train at the Del Amo station in Compton.
Delays are still occurring. I am currently (6pm) on a completely packed southbound Blue Line train that was more than 20 min delayed in departing the 7th St. Station. Metro claims all trains are running and while we have not yet reached the Del Amo station, it does not appear they are single tracking trains around that stop.
This comes just 10 days after a fatality occurred on the same line just 1 station away at the Artesia station. Read our post on that here. Details around that incident are still sketchy with few to no details being provided by Metro.
It seems clear that Metro does not want these occurrences to be discussed. Announcements being made by Metro officials referred to an “obstruction at the Del Amo station causing delays” we think that is putting it a little lightly.
UPDATE – Apparently, yesterday saw 2 train related deaths. A pedestrian was struck and killed by the Red Line at the Wollaston MBTA station in Quincy, Massachusetts. That case seems to have been a suicide as well. It appears transit officials were less than organized in Quincy with many train passengers complaining of mass confusion and a total lack of leadership. More info on that incident can be found here.
